Overview

In the service of Homeland Defense

Homeland Security has become a major concern for every nation facing threats of
internal, cross-border, illegal cyber activities. Criminal actions, proliferating terror,
economical pressures and globalization trends are all contributing to increased
tension, threatening civil order in developed and under-developed countries alike.
Government focus on internal security is impelling global
Homeland Security market growth. The new Directory feature, listing Israel's leading Homeland
Security experts, was compiled by SIBAT - Israel's Defense Exports and Defense
Cooperation branch at the Ministry of Defense -  to assist foreign clients seeking to source homeland
security solutions from Israel.
Israel's leadership position in this market was achieved through decades of investment in - and
development and operation of advanced security systems. Implementing large-scale
border protection systems, securing population centers, rural areas, strategic
assets, critical infrastructure, transportation, communications and cyberspace,
Israel's experience is now serving friendly countries, seeking to protect their citizens
and assets from growing domestic or foreign threats.
Border security systems from Israel include state-of-the-art wide-area surveillance
systems covering terrestrial, airspace, and subterranean domains. Manned and
unattended sensors feed command and control centers in real-time, effectively
monitoring and securing hundreds of kilometers of land borders and coastline.
Elsewhere, 'virtual fences' are providing greater security and safety without the
environmental and social implications of physical barriers. Such systems contribute
in establishing safer cities, protecting tourist attractions and high profile sporting
events.
Other security measures are tailored for air, land and sea transportation,
where combating terror requires deployment of effective screening of personnel
and cargo. Unique Israeli security solutions are tailored to protect some of the
world's largest airlines, airports, harbors, transportation systems, power stations oil, and gas
wells, land or sea or pipelines, as well as countering riots and maintaining order
in correctional facilities.
In this modern age, Guarding the perimeter alone is insufficient for securing a nation.
Free trade and open borders, modern communications and the border/culture-crossing Internet
are critic for economical prosperity. However, these fundamental services are
also exploited by hostile elements for illegal activity. Specialized monitoring
equipment developed in Israel is designed to counter such activity, utilizing advanced
video analytics, communications monitoring, or biometric processing. This equipment is designed to effectively
monitor border crossings, process and analyze communications traffic, track
monetary transactions, or persistently watch for suspects, irregular behavior of
traffic or human movements. These capabilities are now available to law
enforcement agencies combating terrorist and illegal activity.
Israeli companies are also offering a wide range of protective equipment, furnishing
units and personnel with top quality gear. Lightweight, ultra-strong
textiles and composites, developed to offer advanced ballistic armor for vehicles and
personnel. Blast-protection, as well as Chemical, Biological and Radiological-Nuclear
(CBRN) defense, ensures continuity of operations in critical sites and civil populations,
in an event of hostile attack.
Israeli made weapons and systems include specialized optronics, less lethal weapons and munitions, friend/foe identification systems and breaching equipment for security forces, anti-terror units and SWAT teams, VIP's protection and EOD, specialists remote control jammers specialized explosive
identification and detection means, and advanced countermeasures.

Advanced Technology in the Service of National Defense

The connection between eastern turmoil and western funding are unseen threads of co-operations between countries, and after a decade of continuous conflicts in the Middle East and Central Asia which has consumed excessive defense funds in military and security operations, western budgets are now receding defense budgets back to 'normal' proportions.
Today’s military and defense budget trends focus on cutting inflated war-related budgets while maintaining defense requirements which continue to ensue. Whether an army is seeking to reduce its combat manpower and maintain smaller, more effective forces, or whether growing powers seek to build military might through fielding sophisticated new weapons, both rely on modernization and advanced technologies in the service of their nation’s defense.
With current financial constraints, governments often pursue low-profile technology modernizations over big ticket procurements of expensive new platforms.  Solutions target the ability to outpace the enemy, while offering leaders at all echelons maximum command and control of such formidable powers, through network-enabled command structures. By extending the service life of existing systems and by solving obsolescence issues, the military can save incredible costs on improving the remaining life-cycle of such systems.
Upgrading capabilities through new systems, as well as modernization and enhancements of existing ones, are the common denominator of hundreds defense systems presented in this bi-annual directory, depicting Israel's leading defense industries.

The Directory represents Israel's foremost technologies, know-how and expertise, refined
into unique products - complete weapon systems, subsystems, hardware, software or add-ons.
Such systems are turning new or existing platforms and weapon systems into more
effective, efficiently maintained defense assets that serve the military for many years.
Although Israel is not producing main platforms, it is confident in maintaining its national
security against superior military odds, by developing a sophisticated array of innovative
and advanced defense systems, based on unique technologies. These are developed through
massive investment in manpower, skills and unique technologies support critical areas
considered vital for Israel’s security. Included are unmanned systems, electro-optics,
defense electronics, all-weather operational capability, small satellites and many more.
Another unique capability that characterizes Israel's military offerings is their suitability for
modern 'hybrid warfare'. Having experienced this kind of warfare for decades, Israel has
been highly flexible to adapt, and respond with smart system developments in short
cycles, thus virtually outpacing hostile evolution of threats - ranging from insurgency and
terror threats through homeland security to 'high intensity' warfare. Sensitive to its obligation
to minimize risk to human lives and unnecessary damage to both sides, Israel has been
seeking to reduce the collateral damage of its weapons. Through limiting lethality of its
ordnance and focusing on the intended target, Israel is investing immense resources in
obtaining ever smaller weapons with 'man in the loop' control, to achieve precise lethal
effects, while minimizing unnecessary damage and risk to innocent lives.
This directory provides a comprehensive review of Israel's defense industry's capabilities.
Every company listed here is registered with SIBAT and holds the necessary valid permits
on the date of publication. This directory does not attempt to be complete.
The listed companies have voluntarily decided to include a selection of their catalog,
therefore, this directory does not contain Israel's entire list of defense driven
companies or all products available for export.
We hope you find it informative and convenient to use.
